We welcome a variety of article types, including:
- Service (“how-to”) pieces offering practical guidance for daily operations.
- Case studies and reports on new or innovative correctional programs.
- Policy and practice articles addressing how agencies or systems manage controversial issues.
- Opinion essays for our Speak Out column.
- Personal accounts of on-the-job experiences for A View From the Line.
What We Don’t Accept
We do not publish puff pieces, promotional content, or articles without clear news, information, or opinion behind them. Submissions should be useful, timely, and professional.
Writing Style
- Articles (except opinion or personal accounts) must be written in journalistic style, using third person (avoid “I, we, me, us”).
- Submissions must follow AP style for formatting, punctuation, and citations.
- Content should help readers better understand their profession and the critical issues they face daily.
Authorship Policy
- Submissions from consultants or private-sector employees must be co-authored with a corrections professional or academician.
- At least one author must be a practitioner employed by a public agency, nonprofit organization, or an adult/juvenile institutional or academic setting.
How to Submit
- New contributors: Send a written query introducing yourself and your proposed article. We’ll let you know if it’s a fit.
- Completed manuscripts: If your article is already written and follows these guidelines, send it in directly.
